Preparation in Full Swing – Ooty Flower Show

Preparations for the Flower Festival at the Government Botanical Garden (GBG) in Ooty are in the final stages. Spread over 54 acres, the garden was established in 1847 by the colonial rulers when Ooty was their favorite holiday destination. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin allocated Rs 3 million to improve the facilities and facilitate the celebration of the festival.

According to a press release, 5.10 lakh people (compared to 1.73 lakh in March and 3.37 lakh in April) visited the GBG, generating revenue of Rs 248 crore for the state. To book tickets for the flower show, visit the Department of Horticulture website. You can also reserve tickets in person.

According to a recent ruling by the Chennai High Court, tourists heading to Ooty and Kodaikanal will have to obtain e-passes before entering checkpoints in the Nilgiris and Dindigul districts respectively. The move follows the HC’s order to assess the impact on roads and ecosystems and reduce movement in areas that have struggled to accommodate excessive numbers of tourists.

Additionally, the Summer Flower Festival, a major tourism event in the Nilgiris, will also begin in Ooty on May 10 (Friday). The Tamil Nadu government has launched an exclusive e-pass portal for tourist vehicles. E-passes can be obtained on this website. QR codes are also widely advertised. There is no additional charge for using the e-pass as tourists have to pay for the existing entry pass to enter the Nilgiris district.

Mark your calendars and prepare to be mesmerized by the magical sights and sounds of the Ooty Flower Festival!
