With the majestic mountains and tranquil Dal Lake as its backdrop, Srinagar’s famous tulip garden received as many as 4.2 lakh visitors (tourists and locals) from March 23 to Tuesday, setting a new record.

Last year, 3.7 lakh visitors visited the tulip garden. Officials said that since its inauguration, visitors, mostly domestic, have made a beeline for the garden.

Among the visitors to Srinagar Tulip Garden, nearly 3,000 were foreign tourists. The tourism department also showcased famous Kashmiri cuisine, including Wazwan, Kehwa, and traditional bread, to entice tourists and locals alike to experience the charm of Kashmir packages

Due to rising temperatures causing the tulips to wither, authorities have decided to close the Srinagar Tulip Garden to visitors starting this week.

In the current year, the floriculture department boosted the tulip bulb count to 1.7 million and introduced five new flower varieties, totaling 73. Typically, flowering commences by late March.

On average, a Tulip flower’s lifespan is three weeks, which can be extended by five days depending on the weather conditions. Late-blooming varieties are added to prolong the overall bloom. These temperature-sensitive flowers require a mercury range of 15 to 25 degrees Celsius.

The garden played a crucial role in attracting tourists during the spring of 2022, especially after the Covid disruptions in 2020 and 2021. That year, the garden welcomed 2.3 lakh visitors.
